Estimate history

A changed answer
needs a new record.

Reopen the original calculation. Compare it with today’s quote. Then choose a separate estimate or an explicit revision, with the earlier evidence still intact.

A new estimate and a revision are different actions.

Saving from the buying desk creates a new independent estimate by default. It begins a separate numbered family, even if another record has the same customer, item, purpose or date. Similar-looking records do not become revisions merely because they happened close together.

To continue an existing estimate, reopen its saved original, review the parent and current head, and explicitly choose revision behavior. A family keeps its store, customer, item and purpose. The save names both the parent and expected head; another operator cannot quietly insert a competing branch between your review and the write.

The two prices in this illustration use the same ring measurements and buying assumptions with hypothetical quotes. The old amount remains the old amount. The newer result is a separately recorded answer, not an edit that makes the earlier decision disappear.

Return to the basis that actually existed.

The saved original retains its calculation operands and outputs, quote source and timestamp, currency, calculation version, structured inspection snapshot and photo manifest. Later changes to an item’s notes, deduction, inspection or photos do not replace those captured facts.

The latest-quote comparison is a separate view. It uses recorded operands against the current quote and calculation, while showing formula uncertainty when the old calculation version is unknown. A currency mismatch does not produce an invented conversion or cross-currency difference.

Original recordWhat stays capturedWhat stays separate
CalculationWeight, deduction, purity, rates, fees and saved amounts.Your working draft and any later item measurements.
QuoteRecorded price, source, observed time and available provenance.A newer manual quote or a different currency.
InspectionThe recorded revision and its component/evidence facts.A later inspection or an authentication conclusion.
PhotosThe manifest known when the estimate was saved.Later uploads and current authorization to retrieve bytes.

Review new source evidence without erasing typed work.

Before a new save, load the current item basis. The review shows primary metal facts, the non-metal deduction, saved inspection revision and photo count. Using it deliberately updates the current source check and deduction while keeping typed gross weight and purity in place.

A changed source can reject a save without writing a record. That is useful when a different staff member adds evidence or corrects a measurement while your tab is open. The response does not silently replace your source or resubmit your draft. Review the newer basis, choose it and inspect the recalculated result.

Family history works the same way. Loading history does not choose a new parent. Open the current head in a separate tab, then explicitly use the reviewed head if the draft is meant to continue it. A changed customer, item or purpose calls for an independently chosen new estimate instead.

An interrupted save should be confirmable.

  1. Keep one accepted request identity.

The request binds the displayed store, quote, source basis, explicit parent/head and typed operands. A matching retry can return the same saved record rather than adding another.

  2. Continue visible work without rewriting that request.

Changing the displayed quote, source, head or customer/item selection does not mutate an uncertain request. Its recovery control sits above the editable workspace.

  3. Confirm before starting another save.

A timeout can happen after the server commits. Check the previous save while the page is open; there is no automatic retry or silent conversion of a revision into an independent root.

Recovery in this slice belongs to the mounted page. There is no persistent browser draft or hard-reload recovery. The uncertain state tells the operator to keep the page open and provides separate-tab access to recorded history. That limit should be included in a rollout walkthrough.

Take a selected record out as a private packet.

Owners, administrators and managers can explicitly download a selected-estimate ZIP. The default is record-only: the saved record, evidence manifest, checksums and readme. The export identifies the selected original, not the current draft, chosen parent or latest family head.

Including original photos is a separate choice. The frozen manifest must be known, current item custody must authorize access, and every included original must match its stored bytes. Missing or changed evidence does not produce a silently partial archive. A separate record-only request can be made when the original-photo package is unavailable.

The download is bounded to 32 MiB and checked against its archive checksum, without changing the saved estimate, its price or stock. Preparation is recorded in the operational audit; that event does not prove the browser received the file. A portable evidence packet is not an appraisal, signed agreement, payment record or authenticity finding. Review its private contents before sharing it.

Leave the unknown history unknown.

An older estimate without explicit lineage remains an unnumbered legacy base. Its first expressly linked child is revision 1; the app does not invent a version zero or attach older records by matching a customer, piece or amount. Missing quote currency, formula provenance or historical photo capture remain labeled unknown rather than filled from today’s defaults.

Browse explicitly linked records fifty at a time with Older and Newer controls. The viewed original and current family head remain visible while the page changes. Refreshing to the latest history does not select a parent, replace typed inputs or change a pending save request. Every amount uses its own recorded currency. To evaluate the workflow, bring an old record, two competing revisions, a source change and a lost response. Verify both the rejected save and the original evidence afterward.
