The buying desk

An offer starts
with the inputs.

Keep the weight, purity, deduction and quote in view. A price should be something another buyer can explain from the saved record.

Begin with the whole piece, then separate the material.

A scale reading describes the object on the pan. The gold calculation needs the portion attributed to the alloy. For a stone-set ring, record gross weight and the non-metal deduction separately; do not silently treat the stones, resin or other material as precious metal.

The example ring weighs 8.40 g with a 1.20 g deduction, leaving 7.20 g of alloy. At 0.750000 purity, that gives 5.4000 g of fine gold. Record whether the deduction was measured, estimated or sourced elsewhere.

The production desk takes grams and shows fine troy ounces. The preview explores pennyweight too; neither is an ordinary ounce.

8.40 ggross weight−1.20 gnon-metal deduction× 0.750000 purity5.4000 gfine gold

Work the calculation all the way through.

Fine grams are divided by 31.1034768 to obtain fine troy ounces, then multiplied by the matching gold price per troy ounce. Recovery, fees and buying assumptions belong after that metal calculation. The quote must be for XAU in its recorded currency; changing a purity fraction does not make a gold quote suitable for silver.

Outputs are separately rounded from full precision; a rounded subtotal can differ by a cent. Authentication, repair and saleability still need a buyer’s judgment.

Record when the price was observed.

A manager, administrator or owner can append a manual gold quote for the active location and currency. Record the source actually checked and its actual observation time in UTC. Recording at 10:16 does not turn a price observed at 10:15 into a 10:16 observation.

Validity is one to sixty minutes from observation. Up to twenty-four hours of history and thirty seconds of future skew are accepted, but a future observation is not valid before its time. Recording an old observation does not extend its life.

Staff can read the quote and history. Every record retains its exact price, source, observation, recording and expiry. If no readable current quote exists, the desk labels its historical USD reference explicitly; it does not convert that reference into the shop’s currency or treat it as a market feed.

Illustrative chronology. A future observation is not valid until its time arrives; the boundary at expiry is stale.

Review the current source before saving.

A saved estimate should say which item evidence it used. Load the current basis and inspect the primary metal facts, non-metal deduction, saved inspection revision and private-photo count. Use that source explicitly before saving; your typed gross weight and purity remain in the draft.

A changed inspection, photo manifest or primary item fact can reject a save while preserving your inputs. Review and choose the newer source deliberately. Quote changes similarly require explicit refresh and recalculation.

Choose the relationship of the new record.

  1. Save a new independent estimate.

Use this when you need a separate record. The new family begins at version 1, even if another estimate happens to concern the same customer and item.

  2. Save an explicit revision.

Open the prior record, review the parent and current head, and choose revision behavior. The family keeps its customer, item and purpose; an older parent cannot silently fork it.

  3. Confirm an uncertain save.

If the connection fails, keep the page open and check the previous save. The recovery request keeps its original UUID, quote, source and parent while your visible work can continue.

The original calculation, quote evidence, inspection snapshot and photo manifest stay frozen. A new estimate does not purchase the item, create a signed agreement, fund a pawn loan or move cash. Hard navigation does not retain the open page’s recovery request, so finish confirmation before leaving it.

Test a buying scenario.

Use a plain chain and a stone-set piece. Change one input at a time, then ask someone else to explain the saved result. Make the quote stale, alter the deduction in the item record and try saving from an older browser tab. A useful demonstration shows the rejected write and the preserved draft as well as the happy path.

Can I price silver from the same screen?

The production quote-maintenance slice is XAU only. The public preview has a sample sterling scenario, but that does not provide a dedicated production silver feed or execution workflow.

Does the resale lane provide an appraisal?

It is a modeled reference. It does not authenticate a stone, find independent market comparables or generate a completed professional appraisal.

Can I execute a regulated purchase?

Unsupported Arizona regulated execution remains disabled. Estimate evaluation is available separately while the supported ticket, reporting, payment and hold behavior is completed.
